Stainless steel punching machine

Produtech’s stainless steel punching machine is suitable for working metal straight from the coil, ensuring high productivity and efficiency.

Produtech manufactures punching machines specifically designed for stainless steel. In fact, due to its hardness and properties, stainless steel requires special technologies. Let us see our stainless steel punching machine’s features, how the punching takes place, and our main advantages: the machining of stainless steel straight from the coil.

Thanks to the evolution of our punching machines, almost all metals can be punched: iron, aluminum, copper, brass, and, of course, stainless steel. On this page, we focus specifically on stainless steel punching.

Stainless steel punching machine

To punch stainless steel, Produtech manufactures and sells three different lines of machines: ALPI, OROBIA, and LANDE.

All models are suitable for stainless steel punching, thanks to their flexibility and technology. This versatility allowed sheet metal punching to spread in various fields: engineering, pharmaceutical, automotive, manufacturing, electronics, textiles, and many others. Our stainless steel punching machine lines are divided into groups based on tonnage, maximum working thickness, maximum working width, and the maximum number of working tools.

To be more specific:

  • Stainless steel punching machine ALPI: 5 to 20 tonnage, thickness of 1.5 mm to 4 mm, width of 1500 mm, 6 to 8 working tools.

The properties of stainless steel

Before going into the details of punching stainless steel, let’s see what fibers form this metal and what are its characteristics. Stainless steel is an alloy of iron and carbon, plus the addition of alloying elements which makes it resistant to corrosion.

The term stainless steel is used to describe a family of about 200 alloys of steel with remarkable heat and corrosion resistance properties:

  • The carbon percentage can range from 0.03% to 1.2%, while its distinguishing feature is the high amount of chromium.
  • Stainless steel contains a minimum of 10.5% of chromium which improves its corrosion resistance and strength.
  • The chromium in the alloy creates a passive layer of oxidation when exposed to air. This layer acts as a shield against further corrosion essentially making the alloy rustproof. This mechanism allows for retaining a spotless appearance for long periods under normal working conditions.

Produtech provides stainless steel punching machines able to work without problems with this metal.

How to punch stainless steel

In the industrial sector, punching is a process used to cold print on different types of metals, including iron, steel, stainless steel, copper, and aluminum. It is carried out with machines such as the punching machine and the deburring machine: first, a basic shape is created, the matrix, which is then replicated in a series of equal shapes. Then, applying strong pressure, cut a sheet or sheet of metal to obtain the semi-finished product.

Companies are constantly increasing the demand for stainless steel punching; for this reason, also in Produtech, we offer our customers reliable punching machines to work this material. Stainless steel, because of its hardness, requires more pressure to imprint and cut the desired shape and in Produtech we have suitable machines for punching steel and stainless steel.

Machining stainless steel from the coil

Produtech machines are suitable for punching stainless steel from the coil. What does this mean? Our machines are designed to be powered by coils and not by already cut sheets of metal plates. This allows you to save on the purchase of other machinery for pre-cut, as well as to speed up production and have less labor. In addition, the coil costs much less than pre-cut sheets. Stainless steel can also be purchased in the coil format: our punching machines are then responsible, in a single cycle, for cutting the sheet and punching.
